Support Clare's Miracle Recovery Journey

On March 13, my mom, Clare Bennett, collapsed at home while she was recovering from a hip replacement. When she got to the hospital, we found out she was in septic shock as a result of a bowel obstruction. She quickly declined at the hospital and was given a less than 1% chance of survival. She had incredible doctors and nurses, and she fought for her life for the next several weeks. During this time, she underwent 6 major surgeries, started dialysis for kidney failure, developed adult respiratory distress syndrome requiring the ventilator, ended up with shock liver, aspiration pneumonia and eventual trach. She spent 10 weeks in the hospital, most of that time in the ICU. She was discharged to rehab but unfortunately required another admission to the hospital for colitis, another complication from the sepsis.

She is now working hard at rehab and making good progress. She started out not even able to turn herself over in the bed or sit in a chair, to now standing and taking steps with a walker. Unfortunately, insurance won’t cover acute rehab past the first week of July, but she still needs extensive therapy. In addition, the medical bills are starting to roll in and my parents will need to make home modifications as she is still very weak and can’t do stairs. She will have a lot of appointments once she is out of rehab, as she is also still on dialysis.

Any donations will help my parents toward medical bills, transportation costs, and doing modifications on the house to help her be able to come home. Per the doctors, she is a true miracle and we want to make sure she has every opportunity to return home and live her life again. Thank you so much for all the support you’ve given Clare!
