Support Emily's Battle Against EHE
Donation protected
Emily was recently diagnosed with an ultra-rare Sarcoma called: Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma or EHE for short. EHE affects only 1 out of every one million people in the world. This cancer can occur anywhere in the body with the most common sites being the liver, lungs, and bone. The course of this disease varies from person to person. Some tumors are aggressive while others grow slowly and never cause symptoms. At this time, Emily has 7 lesions affecting all lobes of her liver.
After consulting with her local doctors and having her diagnosis confirmed by pathologists at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, Emily has decided to seek treatment in Boston at both Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Emily will be making numerous trips to Boston to have the liver lesions ablated with cryogenics (1 or 2 tumors at a time) with one of the country's top Interventional Radiologists. During these trips, she will have to spend days at a time recovering as an inpatient at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. It is expected to take her at least two weeks post hospital stay to get back to her baseline where she can return to work. While her job is protected, they offer no paid time off.
Because EHE is so rare, there is not a lot of information or research on treatment options. The doctors are hopeful that if they can destroy and control the tumors in her liver and nothing spreads, she can live a long and normal life.
This has been a shock to Emily as well as her family and friends. Any money raised will go toward living and travel expenses as well as medical bills.
