Support for Ana, in Memory of Johnny Medina

Donation protected

Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers. Our community has really shown up for the Medina Reyes family these past couple of days and we are so grateful.

I am Sophie Graham, Johnny's brother Wilson Medina's girlfriend and I want to help the Medina Reyes family who are grieving a tragic and unexpected loss.

Johnny was the youngest of three boys, born and raised in Washington Heights where he became a community staple through his vibrant style and personality. He lived with his mother Ana Reyes and was her main caregiver, buying and bringing groceries up to their 5th floor walkup, and making sure she got to and from her appointments and part-time job cleaning a local medical office. They lived together Johnny's entire life.

Ana has always opened her home to everyone, having cousins, friends, aunts and uncles stay with her for however long they needed. Always cooking a full plate of rice, chicken, and tostones-- even if you weren't hungry. Offering a cup of coffee to anyone coming over. She has done this even through her grief this weekend, taking care of everyone around her as she processes losing her baby boy.

We would love to raise funds to help Johnny's mom not have to worry about funeral costs, bills, and groceries while she mourns this unthinkable loss over the next few months. Many people have reached out to ask how they can support and we feel Johnny would want to make sure our community takes care of his beloved mother.

Johnny, also known by J. McFly, was a vibrant presence in the the Heights as an innovative artist in music, art, and fashion that represented the best of Uptown culture. He empowered fellow artists and was generous and loving with every person he came across on the street, holding open mics in J. Hood Park to inspire the next generation of artists in the area.

Johnny is survived by his mother Ana, father Mario, brothers Kennedy and Wilson, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many cousins who loved him dearly.
