Support for Rosa Elena's Funeral Expenses

On May 31st, 2024 we lost our beloved mother and grandmother, Rosa Elena Cartagena (formerly Zuluaga). We were truly lucky to have such an amazing person at the head of our family. As a mother, she did what she could to provide for her family. We each extended her that same grace when she was alive, trying our best to make sure she was well cared for and happy. The legacy she leaves behind makes us all very proud to be her descendants.

As a family, we were not aware of how sick she was until it was too late. While she had been recovering from a surgery for the last 6 months, it wasn’t until 2 months ago that we found out she had cancer. Perhaps, she did not want to burden us with how sick she was, or perhaps she was in denial about her condition, but before we knew it our matriarch fell ill in a way that felt very sudden. As a family, we tried our best to give her support in the last few months of her life. We thought we could help her survive, but her cancer had already spread, and her kidneys had begun failing her too. Fortunately, we were able to give her the care she needed to feel comfortable. She passed peacefully in her sleep. Even though we had a couple of months to prepare, the truth is we all expected her to pull through. I think we each had hope that somehow, she would prove the doctors wrong. We hoped that with our help, she would be able to stabilize her health. We all prayed that we had more time with her, and sadly, her long life was not long enough for us.

In the midst of it all, evidently, we are left to arrange a funeral for her. We understand that these are difficult and unprecedented times for all so, we please ask our community for support to fund what’s left of her funeral expenses only if it is within your reach. We also thank those who can support us with their thoughts and prayers as no gesture is ever too small. The memorial and viewing is in planning for next week. Queridos amigos, como muchos de ustedes saben nuestra madre y abuela fallecio el 31 de Mayo. Tuvimos mucha suerte de tener una persona tan increíble al frente de nuestra familia. Como madre, hizo lo que pudo para mantener a su familia. Cada uno de nosotros le brindamos la misma gracia cuando estaba viva, haciendo todo lo posible para asegurarnos de que estuviera bien cuidada y feliz. El legado que deja nos hace sentir a todos muy orgullosos de ser sus descendientes.

Como familia, no nos dimos cuenta de lo enferma que estaba hasta que fue demasiado tarde. Se había estado recuperando de una cirugía durante los últimos 6 meses, pero no fue hasta hace 2 meses que descubrimos que tenía cáncer. Quizás no quería agobiarnos con lo enferma que estaba, o quizás negaba su condición, pero antes de repente nuestra matriarca se enfermó de una manera que se sintió muy ligera. Como familia, hicimos todo lo posible para brindarle apoyo en los últimos meses de su vida. Nosotros pensamos que podríamos ayudarla a sobrevivir, pero su cáncer ya se había extendido y sus riñones también habían comenzado a fallarle. Afortunadamente pudimos brindarle la atención que necesitaba para que se sintiera cómoda. Pasó tranquilamente mientras dormía. Aunque tuvimos un par de meses para prepararnos, la verdad es que todos esperábamos que ella saliera adelante. Creo que cada uno de nosotros tenía la esperanza de que, de alguna manera, ella demostraría que los médicos estaban equivocados. Esperábamos que con nuestra ayuda pudiera estabilizar su salud. Todos anhelábamos con tener más tiempo con ella y, lamentablemente, su larga vida no fue lo suficiente de largo para nosotros.

Aunque teníamos un presupuesto, los altos costos del funeral en este momento, nos hace pedir su colaboración, sabemos qué son tiempos difíciles para todos, por eso agradecemos cualquier esfuerzo. También agradecemos a quienes sólo pueden apoyarnos con sus pensamientos y oraciones, ya que ningún gesto es demasiado pequeño. El velorio se esta planificando para la próxima semana. Los detalles se actualizarán aquí para cualquiera que desee asistir a su velorio. Desde el fondo de nuestro corazón, te lo agradecemos.
