The Moment

We honour and celebrate this Geez experiment for what it has inspired, provoked, and sown. We honour you, our community, for holding and sustaining Geez this far. Geez will lay fallow following our summer issue Geez 73 on fire. We embrace this ending with humble surrender to the necessity of death if there is to be hope for resurrection.

The Impact of Your Donation

While we continue to rely on the generosity of our donors, we are no longer receiving subscriptions which significantly reduces our income. We cannot cover the cost of printing and mailing without your help. To ensure we meet our goals in the process of producing our final issue and seeking to die well, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise $10K.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for:

★ Printing of Geez 73 - $7,500

★ Shipping Geez 73 to readers - $2,500

If we go over our $10,000 goal, we will use the additional funds to cover:

★ Operating costs for things such as compensating the contributing writers and artists for this issue,

★ Fair wages paid for archiving and wind-down tasks,

★ Paying to keep our website live for at least four years so that Geez content remains accessible as a live resource.

These additional expenses will cost approximately $4500.

We seek to end this closing season with enough funds remaining for the board to access legal advice about dissolving the organization and potentially handing off the publication.

Regardless of what we raise, any necessary financial cuts will be made in order to ensure all artists and writers are compensated for their time and work. For example, if we are unable to raise $10,000, we will publish a digital version.

Perks of Giving

As a token of our gratitude, enjoy a series of perks offered for donations that meet or exceed the following amounts:

★ $100: Your Name In Flames All donors who contribute $100 or more toward our crowdfunding goal will have their names illustrated into a fire-building custom artwork that will be featured in our closing issue, Geez 73.

★ $250: Keep Geez Ablaze in Your Life By donating at this level, you will receive a commemorative Geez matchbox to carry with you as you vigil by candle light, kindle the communal fire, and burn down this “filthy, rotten system.” Donors at this level will also receive perk 1.

★ $1,000: Stoke Seeds of Hope Members of Geez’s staff will create a native seed bomb in your honour to be released in subversive spaces in Detroit, Michigan. We will share this process in our Instagram stories with a named dedication. Donors at this level will also receive perks 1 and 2.
