Support Grell's Urgent Medical Needs

Donation protected
Right now, we are only concerned with immediate upfront costs of Grell's current issues, Urethral Obstruction, Enlarged Kidneys, his existing emergency medical bills, and his ongoing treatments as he needs them. He is going to require at least two more follow-up visits in addition to the outstanding Emergency Vet bill.

Over Memorial Day Weekend Grell began acting strange, even for him. He began crying out in pain. He doesn't usually complain unless he's calling either my husband or I when he wants to cuddle and will settle down afterwards. This is not what was happening. The next day (on a Sunday) he had been unable to urinate at all and was continuing to cry and constantly licking his rear area. It quickly became apparent that blood was coming from his urethra. At 2:30 in the morning my husband and I took Grell to the only emergency vet open.

Grell's bladder was fully obstructed and filled nearly to capacity with bloody urine. He was catheterized for about 3 days all the while on IV fluids, pain meds, and antibiotics.

So the financial issues my husband and I are facing with Grell's emergency bills, upcoming follow-up vet visits, new prescriptions and treatments are far out of what we can afford. We've already taken out loans as much as we can to cover this in the meantime.

My husband and I have had Grell for a little over 7 years now, it will be 8 years come this November.

About Grellmalkin Strutcliff:
Grell is a rescue who had a terrible start in life, as a kitten he was housed with an older woman with presumed schizophrenia and the police had to intervene several times. She had been witnessed throwing Grell out of a second story window on more than one occasion, he was also being kicked causing injuries to his hips and permanent damage to his left eye. Grell was also rescued 3 times from the woman's garage when the police and rescue people had intervened due to complaints from neighbors in the area . He had been found in the woman's garage during both summer and winter in extreme temperatures with no evidence of food or water being provided in all of the cases and severely emaciated each time.

After the last time the police forcibly evicted his owner is when he came to us through a friend who rescues animals from situations like this. Of course we took him in, and got him the vet care he needed. He is very special needs due to his trauma, health and allergy issues. We've kept up with his vet bills, special foods, other special care, and required accommodations since we took him in to our family 7 years ago. Grell is one of the unfortunate animals out there that end up getting labeled as 'unadoptable' due to his health, allergies, special dietary needs, and his previous abuse situation, but he has always had a caring and understanding home in this family. We all have issues here and the unadoptables have always been welcome in our hearts and home.

Moving on:
In December 2023 I was hospitalized for life-threatening complications with endometriosis and gynecological cysts which resulted in a total hysterectomy and removal of my ovaries. With my health issues and not being able to work in 7 months at all because of them and not qualifying for any assistance due to being self-employed there just isn't anything left.

After many tests and a several day stay at the emergency vet, he is still in need of many follow up visits and ongoing medications. As it is, we cannot afford his ER visit, we have already taken out a loan. And as mentioned, Grell is not adoptable and has many emotional issues. He cannot be without my husband who we always joke is Grell's emotional support animal. Obviously, giving Grelly to another home if things get that bad financially for us humans is NOT an option for him.

We owe over $8,000 in vet bills alone that we were not prepared for since my own medical emergencies, hospitalizations, and surgeries and the very unexpected situation of me not being able to work due to my own health has not helped in any way. My husband and I are not asked for a single cent to cover any of our own medical bills, that is ours to deal with. AGAIN, we are only concerned with immediate upfront costs of Grell's current issues, his existing emergency medical bills, and his ongoing treatments as he needs them.
