It shouldn't be this way, and yet, we live in a country where we have to do 'go fund me' campaigns to cover our medical expenses. Kay Ray is and has been a vibrant and integral member of the Mansfield, TX community. She is owner and operator of a successful health food store, as well as being integrally involved in many community health and human services activities, helping to support the homeless and disadvantaged members of our community.
Kay recently injured her elbow and had to have repair and reconstruction surgery. The ramifications of this unexpected surgery have - as you can imagine - a ripple effect. In addition to the nearly $20,000 in medical bills so far, there will be additional expenses for rehabilitation. On top of that, Kay will no longer be able to operate as a massage therapist, which provided important income as a part-time business.
Kay and her husband Roger have covered as much of the bills as possible, extending their credit, selling their precious art pieces, jewelry and other valuables.
This fundraiser will help them not only pay off some of the debt they incurred for this unexpected medical expense, but also help supplement the lost income as Kay recovers and plans her future without the income from her massage business.
It's impossible to know when one of our will find ourselves in similar circumstances, so let's pull together as a community and show them some love and at the same time, let the rest of the community know that their work and lives are valuable to us all.
