Dan's Obituary

“I’m a gamer not because I don’t have a life, but because I choose to have many…”
On Sunday, November 17, 2024, Daniel Mobley of Huntsville, AL, at his 41st level in life, departed this world to begin his next adventure. Born on May 24, 1983, in York, PA, Dan collected many titles he was proud of as he progressed through the levels: son, brother, nephew, grandson, friend, bowler, gamer, tuba player, music lover, husband, and father. He was known to many by his gaming personas: Varil and Minicloud across various games and platforms, and as the shadow monk Maros in numerous D&D campaigns. One of the kindest and most giving souls, he was always there to lend an ear if you wanted to talk or offer a hand if you needed help, all with a twinkle in his eye and a joke at the ready. Despite the physical challenges he faced over the last few years, Dan’s inner light might have dimmed at times but remained burning strong till the end.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife and gaming partner, Kristie Oldaker; his two sons, Matthew Mobley of Hazel Green, AL, and Noah Mobley, along with their mother Brandy Nash of Griffin, GA; his mother Debra Mobley; sister Katie Mobley; nephew Junior Kolb; and grandparents Carl and Jackie Hoover, all of York, PA. Additionally, there are numerous surviving relatives between York, PA, and Griffin, GA. He also leaves behind a far-flung group of close friends from all over the world, made through connections in the many gaming worlds he enjoyed. He is preceded in death by his father, Chester Mobley, as well as uncle Carl Hoover Jr.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 3-5 PM on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Barryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville. A Gaming Celebration of Life event will follow several weeks later on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at High Ground Hobbies in Madison, AL. The family requests that attendees dress comfortably for the visitation, with casual attire and gaming shirts being perfectly acceptable, as Dan would have wanted.
“No matter how dark the night, morning always comes, and the journey begins anew…”
