Support Larry Monroe's Final Journey Home

Hello, I am Teresa Iyotte. My family and I are in deep sorrow over the loss of our brother Lawrence "Larry" Monroe and his wife Shirley who both perished in a house fire in the early morning hours of September 17th, 2024 in Sacramento, California. He was our oldest brother and took over as our father when we lost our father several years ago, and our mother. He was a loving husband to his wife, and his wife was his angel in life. He has a son he is leaving behind. He was a U.S Army Airborne Special Forces veteran . We are traditional Lakota, and take pride in the Lakota culture whereas he is a Lakota Sundancer and Pipe Carrier. From the Rosebud "Sicangu" Tribe of Lakota. Larry was raised in Rosebud, going to boarding school, and living with our grandmother. Even as we all transferred to Los Angeles on a Government relocation program in 1955 he maintained the Lakota language. His life was full of experience and moving to Sacramento becoming an entrepreneur, and a strong advocate against drug and alcohol abuse for Native Americans, working at the treatment center, Director of Sacramento Indian Center, and business owner. Larry was very generous to his friends and relatives paying light bills, and remembering birthdays, and holidays. At this time we are stricken with the huge burden of his funeral costs. As we are hoping to comply with his desire to be buried with our mother on the Rosebud Lakota Reservation, in South Dakota. Due to the severe nature of his death, we have additional issues, such as a special air-tight box, etc. needed to transfer him via Air Flight. We have two funeral homes, one in Sacramento that will ship him, and one that will receive him in Denver, Colorado, and transport him home to Rosebud. We are already behind time, but the Coroner barely released him, and we are now in a scramble to meet the costs, of this very expensive ordeal. We hereby ask all our friends, our relatives to please assist us in this endeavor. To bring our brother home where he asked to be placed with our mother and family members. We wanted to just pick him up and bring him ourselves but the laws require all professional handling. Thank you so much. Lila Pilamaya'ye
