Support Muhammad Azam build life again

This is for my close friend Muhammad Azam, 30 years of age from Pakistan, employed in telecom sector in Dubai, UAE. A zealous soul but sadly life has dealt him a bad hand, one after the other. Here is his plea to all of you out there, thank you for taking out time to give it a read.

What Went Wrong

Getting straight to it, my friend is dealing with the not so forgiving curse of debt. With a job just making it possible from pay cheque to pay cheque and no real savings, he had to deal with his mother’s illness a few years back, she struggled with lung cancer and eventually succumbed to this deadly disease. Azam was left to take care of his younger sister, her education expenses and trying his best to help his retired father who struggled to make ends meet back in Pakistan.

It was not long before he was faced with another earth-shattering news of his father dealing with prostate cancer. This threw him into a downward spiral of emotional and financial instability, leading him to make haphazard decisions to get out of the already piling debt from acquaintances and to support his father’s medical bills and tending to his little sister’s needs. His father passed away a few months back (may he rest in peace).

By this time Azam’s situation was so dire that he was not even able to tend to his father’s funeral rituals, let alone travel back home to attend it.  And of course, the added burden of COVID around the globe did not make things easier. One can imagine (or maybe not) the emotional whirlpool he was in.

The ever-increasing debts, the loss of parents, being unable to help in any way or even pay a visit and not being there for his younger sister who is all alone in Pakistan, living with friends in some hostel without any extended family help.  All this took a huge toll on his emotional, physical, and mental well-being. I cannot recall exactly since how long, but he has been unable to process all of this alone while all the time the debt kept on piling up.

It took a big hard snap on the wrist from some close friends that pushed him out of his haze and has made him realize that he needs to take the first step, that is of asking for help, no matter how hard it seems. He is not seeking an easy way out; trust me all of this is anything but easy. He needs to step up for his sister, as she is all he has now. But with the current amount of debt, the COVID affecting the job market, Azam is in dire need of some help from the outside.

 PLAN

Azam has reached out to me for support and I suggested to reach out for crowdfunding through GoFundMe. After compiling and summing all the debts, we have come up with a financial plan to pay it off on monthly instalments.

Total amount that needs to be paid is around 83,558 CAD. Among these are bank and personal loans from friends. Plan is to pay, with God’s grace and support from every capable sole, above amount in 10 months installment which rounds to 8,355 CAD per month. Priority to pay bank loans at first to avoid any interests while personal loans will be paid based on the amount of support. The monthly installment will also include Azam’s salary where he will side out a small portion from it just for his rent and sister’s monthly pocket money.

I am setting up this page for my friend Muhammad Azam with the hope that this message can be read and understood by people with whose support we will be able to give him a ray of hope.

Any help (a dollar - a cent - a penny) at all from you is going to help him get one step closer towards a debt free life, a life where he can provide sustenance to his young sister and add stability to his life that has been shattered since losing both their parents.

ZAKAT

I would like to hilight that Azam is elligable for receiving Zakat as his finances are not sufficient to cover his debts .

As God says in the Holy Quran:

“The alms are only for the Fuqara’ (the poor), and Al-Masakin (the needy) and those employed to collect (the funds), and to attract the hearts of those who have been inclined (towards Islam), and to free the captives; and for those in debt; and for Allah’s Cause, and for the wayfarer (a traveler who is cut off from everything); a duty imposed by Allah. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.” [Al-Quran 9:60]”.

I would finally request anyone and everyone who took time to read this story to share this with all your family and friends.

Thank you all in advance.

P.S – Will keep everyone donor updated on the monthly installment progress along with the pending amounts through posts.
