3 Ways to Support our Changemakers
Tax deductible
At La Cima Elementary School , we believe our scholars should have the same chances for learning, growing, and experiencing the world as others, no matter their financial circumstances. That's why we are raising funds to support three efforts: providing free school supplies and uniforms to our students, offering free middle school exam prep for our fifth grade scholars, and leading a cultural immersion trip to Paris at a cost affordable to parents.
La Cima is a K-5 charter elementary school serving students in central Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Our goal is for all of our scholars to meet or exceed the state standards in order to graduate college and positively impact the social fabric of our world.
Help our scholars lay the groundwork for their future success by supporting our campaign. Read below to see how your tax-deductible contribution will be used.
1. School Supplies
More than 80% of La Cima’s scholars receive free or reduced school lunch, and we currently serve more families experiencing homelessness than most schools in the district. For families struggling to make ends meet, the cost of things a child needs for school adds up. La Cima offers to provide backpacks, eyeglasses, sneakers, and uniforms free to students. Your contribution ensures we can continue to offer this to scholars, reducing the stress on families and making it easier for our scholars to focus on what matters most in the classroom: learning.
· $20 covers the cost of a pair of eyeglasses OR a pair of shoes
· $30 provides a backpack for a scholar
· $50 buys a school uniform
2. Middle School Exam Prep
La Cima provides free tutoring to help scholars prepare for NYC middle school entrance exams. We also cover the application fees for families and assist them with completing the financial aid assessment for tuition assistance at private, independent schools. We feel strongly that our scholars should have the same opportunities for a rich and dynamic middle school education as other students, one that puts them on the path to future academic success.
· $50 funds a scholar’s financial aid assessment for an independent middle school.
· $75 pays for a 90-minute tutoring session for the middle school entrance exam.
· $120 covers the application fee for an independent middle school
3. Paris Cultural Immersion Trip
This spring break, twelve La Cima fifth-graders will be traveling to Paris as part of a cultural exchange that builds connections to art, history, culture, and people. On this year’s trip, students will go on a Josephine Baker walking tour, visiting the artist’s home and places she performed. The experience is life-changing, leaving a lasting imprint on a young person’s worldview and broadening their vision of the future. It is also expensive. While families help pay a small fee for their scholar to attend, your contribution ensures we can make it affordable and accessible.
· $150 pays for meals and activities for a scholar
· $450 buys one-way of a student’s flight to Paris
· $1,000 covers lodging for a scholar
