Support Our Dad's Journey to Recovery

Please help support our incredible dad on his road to recovery.

What Happened
On Tuesday, June 11th, our dad suffered a spontaneous hemorrhagic stroke while on his property in northeast Wisconsin. An ambulance rushed him to Dickinson Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, MI, where it was determined that he'd need to be life-flighted via helicopter to St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay, WI.

Upon arriving, he immediately underwent life-saving brain surgery to stop the bleeding and alleviate the pressure on his brain. It was also discovered that, from the fall during the stroke, he shattered his left orbital bone, leaving him sore, scraped, and bruised on that side.

While his brain continues to heal, a piece of his skull on the right side is out. In the coming weeks, his neurosurgeon anticipates another surgery to replace it, which will involve, hopefully, a much shorter recovery time.

Most Current Update
Since that day, he has spent time in the ICU, IMCU, and general floor before being admitted to inpatient rehabilitation. His weekly routine will now consist of multiple sessions of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. As of now, his left side has significant deficits. We're hopeful that awareness is slowly returning to his left leg, but he has been unable to move his left arm and hand. He's gaining more ability daily to open his eyes.

Unsurprisingly, to everyone who knows him, he is extremely motivated during his therapy sessions. His incredibly driven and positive disposition is showing through as he works hard to recover his mobility and speech. We couldn't be more in awe of him.

How Your Support Will Help
Your donations will go directly towards the extensive medical bills my parents will face from this incident. This has been the most horribly traumatic event of my dad's and my family's lives. Any alleviation from the financial burden that is coming will significantly improve our family's wellbeing.

About Him and a Thank You
Our dad is the hardest worker you can imagine. In his life, he has been a Chicago firefighter on truck 36, a carpenter for local 58 in Chicago with ECI, and a carpenter and trainer for local 1146 with VerHalen and HJ Martin in Green Bay, WI.

He is a lifelong music lover, always jamming to either heavy metal like his son-in-law's band Trivium, Frank Zappa, or smooth jazz. He took my brother and me to concerts our entire childhood and continues to attend shows with his son-in-law, Paolo, regularly. In addition to music, he's a passionate musky fisher, puzzle doer, outdoor explorer, astronomy lover, sculptor, and geography lover.

He is the most selfless and giving person I've ever known. He has never hesitated to offer either his extensive skillset or his support to anyone who needs it, whether it be for construction work, road trips, running half marathons, or watching his grandkids. We could fill a book with stories about how he is the best father and person we’ve ever met. I'm sure if you know him, you could too. He has always given so much to so many people. It's our turn now to show up for him and return the love.

If you can donate to his recovery, please know how deeply thankful my family is for your support. He would never ask for help himself, which is why I (his daughter) am doing so on his behalf.
