Support Teyonah’s SCI Recovery

To our family, friends, and beyond, my little sister Teyonah needs your support!

On August 11, 2023 her life as she knew it was changed forever. Teyonah was riding with a friend, solely there to help him stay awake on the road, when he accidentally fell asleep behind the wheel. This caused the 18-wheeler to run off the shoulder of the roadway, bypass the guardrail, and crash into the embankment. My sister, who was asleep on the bunker at the time of the crash, was ejected from the truck through the top of the roof, which was blown off during impact. Though the driver was pretty bruised, Teyonah had to be airlifted to the nearest trauma center, where it was found she suffered multiple life-threatening injuries. Those injuries included a severed spinal cord, fractured skull, collapsed lung, and a broken neck and ribs, to name a few. Though we are asking everyone to pray for a full recovery, Teyonah has been deemed paraplegic due to the complete break in her spinal cord. Though she is now paralyzed from the waist down, she is working hard to gain mobility in her upper body. She is still here in an ICU located in Virginia, at least 4 hours away from the nearest family member.

It is a nightmare of a situation, but we truly appreciate the amount of love, prayers, and support that has been demonstrated since the news broke. We’re asking if anyone would like to further extend their support with monetary donations for Teyonah. She is now unable to start school this month, unable to properly celebrate her birthday in two weeks, unable to pay her health expenses because she does not have insurance, and unable to walk. She must now adjust to living with a handicap that affects every aspect of her life. Your donations will help displace that crucial loss of income and help cover mounting medical and living expenses so that Teyonah may focus on her health and SCI (spinal cord injury) rehabilitation.

Teyonah is doing as well as anyone could in this situation, maybe better. She is just ecstatic to still be here with us. She even jokes every day and maintains a great attitude. She is so strong, strong in her faith in God as well as demonstrating a strong and independent determination in herself. She refuses to allow her new reality to break her spirit. She knows that she has a very long journey ahead of her, but she is ready to face it head on without fear. She will be a living testimony to showcase God’s power, greatness, and love!
