Help Mike & Diana open Story Screen Cinema

Hey Story Screen Fam,

We are reaching out to ask for your support in raising funds for a new endeavor but we wanted to give you a little bit of history first...

Mike Burdge started Story Screen back in 2014 as a way to share his love of movies through pop-up film screenings and interactive movie-themed events, partnering with local businesses throughout the city of Beacon, NY, and the Hudson Valley. Mike gathered friends who loved movies to help him create fun engaging content for Story Screen's website and pop-up events, creating everything from one-of-a-kind movie posters to podcasts, videos, articles, and film reviews - all while building a community of movie lovers where everyone is treated like family.

Mike, along with Robert Anderson, Bernadette Gorman-White, and Diana DiMuro, later became Story Screen’s managing team behind the scenes. Story Screen built up a fanbase that helped lead to our involvement in the opening and management of Wonderbar and the Story Screen Beacon Theater. Mike kept Story Screen and the theater in Beacon going throughout the COVID-19 pandemic (literally helping build the Story Screen Drive-In), finding ways to support other Beacon businesses in the process. At the theater, Mike brought new and fun special events and quality film programming (both new and old) to the big screen. He poured his blood, sweat, and tears into making the Story Screen Beacon Theater a success.

In February 2023, Mike parted ways with his business partners at the theater in Beacon and returned to showcasing pop-up film screenings and fun movie-themed events -- VHS Pasta Night! Drag Me to the Movies with Little Loaf Bakeshop! Story Screen Trivia with Bernadette Gorman-White! Movie Bingo with Diana DiMuro! -- while continuing to partner with amazing local businesses throughout the Hudson Valley to keep sharing movies while looking for a new brick-and-mortar location.

NOW FOR THE EXCITING PART...

Mike and Diana (thanks to some VERY supportive friends and family) were able to recently purchase a 3-screen independent movie theater in Hudson, NY. With a full kitchen! And a small bar! We are busy working hard to get this new space ready to open and we can’t wait to welcome you to the new STORY SCREEN CINEMA – where you can come and enjoy a wide variety of programming -- new and old movies, first-run, second-run, independent, foreign films, and lots of old favorites. We are so excited to create fun movie-themed events, food, and drinks in a place with high-quality sound and projection for YOUR MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT. Our friends at Happy Valley Arcade Bar and Sunshine Laundromat and Pinball are also hooking us up with retro arcade games and pinball machines! You'll be able to come play games, eat, drink, and hang out.

NOW FOR SOME REAL TALK…

Mike and Diana need your help. We can’t do this alone. Any contribution from you will help support our business by contributing to our startup costs and working capital – meaning: helping purchase inventory for our delicious concessions, bar, and kitchen, making fun cosmetic renovations to the current space, paying fees for licensing movies, and getting those awesome games and pinball machines for our arcade! NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL. EVERY CONTRIBUTION HELPS.
