After a three year battle with cancer Theresa Toal-Heaney (age 57) has been moved to the care of Hospice. She is the sister to the five Toal brothers (Peter, Tim, Steve, Michael and Richard). What started off as skin cancer (melanoma) aggressively spread to her lungs, then liver and now her brain. She has fought hard and courageously over the last three years, but this wicked disease has proven to be too much for her to overcome. Originally given only six months, through her determination, her love of family, the love and support from her children (Christopher, Matthew and Megan), extended family and friends and the talents of her team of clinical specialists, almost 3 additional years together has been a gift.
Throughout the duration of this fight, Teri and her loving and devoted husband Rick have exhausted all of their financial resources…and then some. Rick is a tractor-trailer driver and has been hauling essential products and food across country never missing a trip throughout the entire Covid-19 pandemic. He was forced to continue working to maintain the household and their health benefits for Teri's treatments.
Now, as she and the family enter the final chapter of her fight, Rick needs to come off the road to be home with Teri, and to help see her through to the end. This is a choice that may prove disastrous financially, but invaluable within the precious time they have left together. Teri's family continues to contribute in countless ways, but this situation calls for a village...and I wanted to let those who have been touched by this kind and proud family, who has done so much for others in times of need, to assist as they (you) can.
This is a heart-breaking time for the Toal and Heaney families. They encourage all of us to hug your spouse and kids and parents (if you are still so fortunate) and tell them you love them.
