Support Villa Fontaine Families After Flood

Donation protected
Late last week in the middle of the night, a pipe burst under the parking lot of Villa Fontaine condos. The water burst up through the pavement and down the hillside, causing a landslide of mud and rushing water that flooded 5 units and forced evacuations of the families living there.

The residents in the 5 units that were flooded had to evacuate suddenly, with fire crews and even the Red Cross responding to help move them out safely through the floodwaters. Even as a resident living right above the damaged parking lot, it took time for me to understand the extent of the damages. These homes are now uninhabitable, and the residents won't be able to move in for at least 6 months, if not longer. The parking lot damage grew from some cracks in the pavement to a full-blown sinkhole, which requires specialized crews to evaluate before repairing. All residents are forced to park on the street outside the complex and avoid the area, and the families affected by the flooding are trying to clear out their homes even as the lot is filled with crews responding to the complex damages. They're outside all day shoveling mud, throwing their ruined furniture off their couches, and trying to salvage whatever they can.

I've lived at Villa Fontaine for nearly 3 years, and this is a quiet, kind, supportive community. The residents affected include a family with 2 kids under the age of 10, an elderly person with a child with special needs, and even our COA board president, who's been coordinating the disaster relief even as she works to recover her own home from the damages of the flood. Our neighbors have always been respectful and kind, and they are deeply in need of our support now. These families lost nearly all their physical possessions and had to find last-minute rental homes or stay with family and friends for the unforeseeable future.

Our neighborhood is doing what we can to support our neighbors, but we need more help. My hope is to raise money for the residents of these homes, which we'll split equally among them to help them recover from these losses. They'll need it for everything from new furniture, clothes, and home items, to simply paying for their rental properties while they recover.
