Teacher Michael’s medical expenses

Our beloved Teacher Michael needs our help! He is a single father raising 2 children and is now unable to work due to serious health issues. He will be facing many large medical expenses as he navigates his recovery to health.

Michael has had a relapse of a rare autoimmune kidney condition called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). This causes the immune system to attack the kidneys, leading to kidney damage, and excessive swelling in the body, especially the legs and feet, when standing up. It also causes him to be extremely low energy and causes loss of appetite. If left untreated, the condition would worsen overtime, eventually leading to kidney failure. 

Thankfully, he has successfully treated this condition before with high doses of prednisone, and then tapering off slowly. Unfortunately prednisone (a corticosteroid, and immuno suppressant) causes other side effects which can get worse over time, affecting the heart and eyes. 

Michael has recently found out about a medication with little to no effects, that has been helpful for people with autoimmune issues. He will begin working with a naturopathic doctor who can prescribe this medication, and use this in conjunction with other herbs and dietary protocols that he has used successfully in the past to treat this condition.

The process of recovery from this illness takes time, and money. He will consequently need to take a month off from work in order to heal. Let’s help raise money for Michael to alleviate the financial strain of trying to recover from this illness.
