THE BEN NEVIS CLIMB FOR PROSTATE CANCER UK

My name is Christopher McInnes and I am here raising money for Prostate Cancer UK.

The goal is to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, successfully with a great group of boys along side me. This will be attempted on August 1st 2020.

Ben Nevis also known as "THE MOUNTAIN WITH ITS HEAD IN THE CLOUDS" is a great 1,344m (4409ft) high and has approximately 150,000 ascents made each year.

I have chosen this charity as i've had previous experience with prostate cancer in my family. I lost my grandfather, John McLaughlin a few years back and never quite got my head around it. I had never lost anyone close to me and it came as a massive shock to the system. The man was one of the fittest & healthiest 69 year olds you could have met and was a very well known gentleman in and around Renfrewshire. The way i could try describe this is if it was one day everything was normal in life and the next day it was all taken away from you with a number of days to live. That unfortunately was the brutality of one of the rarest forms of prostate cancer he had developed without showing any signs. It was very hard for me to accept and I wish I could have visited more at the hospital at that time my life when his time was limited.

I hope doing by doing this and raising money and awareness for this horrible disease honours him and all the men who are taken away from prostate cancer.

Some of the boys that will be accompanying me on this journey have lost loved ones to the same disease and in general cancer which makes it all the more worthwhile.

Prostate cancer in the UK is the most common cancer in men and the cause is largely unknown. The chances increase as you get older and there is around 48,500 new prostate cancer cases in the UK every year... that's more than 130 per day with around 6 in 10 people being diagnosed at a late stage in Scotland.
There is around 11,700 prostate cancer deaths in the UK every year which is 32 per day which for males is the 2nd most common death.

The final and most shocking fact everyone should be aware of is that 1 in 6 males will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

I feel with COVID-19 taking over 2020 it feels as if the ones who suffer from everything else haven't had much a voice and I just want everyone to remember the daily battles people still go through out with this horrible COVID-19 virus.

All donations will go to PROSTATE CANCER UK and will be hugely appreciated by myself and all the boys participating in this climb.
