The Camarra Daughters’ College Fund

Dear Christine,

What you have endured over the last three years of your life is unimaginable. On top of the chaos the entire world has known, you and your family have been quietly living every day with a situation that would bring the strongest people to their knees. It is hard to find the right words to say when you have been diagnosed with terminal cancer and have to decide between hospice or endless procedures to possibly get another round of chemo for time, not a cure. The rare and aggressive cancer that has turned your life upside down with endless trips to different doctors in different cities for the small chance of a possible cure is too much for us to understand. Rounds of Experimental treatments and then standard treatments, the immense uncertainty that has been ever present in you and your family’s life is too much for us to understand.

Your strength in this fight is elite. Your grace is unparalleled. In trying to find the words to give comfort and relay our feelings, we typically revert to the common phrases, which is “I am thinking of you” and “sending love and prayers”. This is an expression of love, but often times also an expression of helplessness. We don’t know what to say, we don’t know what to do, but ANYONE who knows you and your family would do anything they could to help.

You and George are two of the greatest people to walk this earth, and your girls are following right in your footsteps. We want to run as fast as we can to help, but there is no place for us to go. Except one.

The one thing all of us on the sidelines can do is to pledge our love and support to you and George and the girls.  In that spirit we are setting up a Fund specifically designed for the girl’s education. These tax-free donations will pass directly into 529 education accounts for each of your daughters. We want you to know that an entire community of determined and grateful people are standing behind you all. We can only imagine that you are spending your time worrying about your husband and especially your daughters. If this gives you a moment of peace to know that we are committing to help, then we have achieved our goal.

We love you more than words can express.

Christine’s latest post sums it up, and is the reason this fund exists.

Our trip to Arizona had end sooner due to the excruciating pain this cancer decided to take on me. Since my last chemo plan stopped working and actually increased the cancer more, I have been contemplating my next course of action. Hospice or try another chemo med that MIGHT work. Unfortunately, the most recent CT Scan revealed what I already felt happening a couple weeks ago. Metastatic cancer all over my pelvis and liver along with increased tumors on my lungs. So after noticing that I had developed jaundice, it was time to get to the ER. My liver is in bad shape. Spend the night at NWH.  We’re coming to terms with our horrendous reality and what’s about to happen. I am forever grateful for the abundance of love and support from my family, friends, SIS, and the entire Somers community. So much love given to us from so many wonderful people has truly helped me battle this horrific disease. We are forever appreciative for the compassion and empathy so many have shown us. Thank you for helping to take care of my family. ❤️
