The Gateshead Gallacher PLAQUE Tribute

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kalwinder Singh Dhindsa.

I have created this page to raise funds for a b̶e̶n̶c̶h̶ plaque to celebrate the life of the legendary footballer, Hughie Gallacher.

This will be a tribute b̶e̶n̶c̶h̶ plaque to one of the greatest goalscorers that ever played the game of football.

I WAS ORIGINALLY HOPING TO PUT DOWN A BENCH, BUT DUE TO THE LACK OF SUPPORT AND ENGAGEMENT IN RELATION TO THIS CAMPAIGN, I HAVE NOW DECIDED TO OPT FOR A TRIBUTE PLAQUE.

I HOPE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY DONATED TO THE CAMPAIGN DON'T MIND.

Hugh Kilpatrick Gallacher (2 February 1903 – 11 June 1957) was a Scottish football player in the 1920s and 1930s.

  • In 624 senior games, Gallacher scored 463 goals, playing senior league football for Airdrieonians, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Derby County, Notts County, Grimsby Town and Gateshead AFC. Prior to this he also played and scored for then non-league Queen of the South.

  • He is one of the Scotland national football team's most prolific goalscorers with 24 goals from his 20 internationals, a strike rate of more than a goal a game.

  • Gallacher was one of the Wembley Wizards who beat England 5–1 at Wembley Stadium in 1928.

This b̶e̶n̶c̶h̶ plaque will be installed on the premises of Gateshead Redheugh FC in Teams - Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.

Tyneside.

This location was decided upon because when Hughie Gallacher played for Gateshead AFC between 1938-39, the football stadium he played at was called Redheugh Park.

Redheugh Park was subsequently demolished in 1972, but Gateshead Redheugh FC (formed in 1957, the same year Hughie passed away) is now located very close to the site where Hughie once graced the football field.

The b̶e̶n̶c̶h̶ plaque will be unveiled on 2 February 2023 to coincide with Hughie Gallacher's 120th birthday.

It has the full backing of Gateshead Redheugh FC.

This tribute is important to me because last year, I put down the first tribute in the land to Hughie Gallacher in Derby, England.

This b̶e̶n̶c̶h̶ plaque campaign will now bring him closer to his adopted home in Gateshead, where his family members, including his son Hughie Gallacher Jr, continue to reside.

The funds collected will be used to pay for the making of the b̶e̶n̶c̶h̶ plaque and the installation.

The design will acknowledge Hughie's football career, the town of Gateshead, and the actual location the b̶e̶n̶c̶h̶ plaque will be installed.

"It's grand to be back on Tyneside," said an emotional Hughie Gallacher, when he climbed off the train. "My heart has been here ever since I left United eight years ago. I intend to spend the rest of my life with my adopted folk in Gateshead."
