The Ireland Canada Monument
To this vast land they came.
Fishing in a new-found-land
Cast out in great hunger to perish at sea.
They came again and found their way home.
In this land of hope they toiled.
Strong and free they laboured and innovated, created and celebrated and raised their Irish voices to sing O’Canada!
The Monument will commemorate Irish Canadians, Canadians of Irish descent and many Irish organizations across Canada.
The Project was inspired by the visit of President of Ireland Mary McAleese to Vancouver in 2005.
The Ireland Canada Monument Society was incorporated in June 2010 as a non profit. All Directors and members of the Society volunteer their time and efforts to the completion of this historic project.
In June 2017, the Monument Society was delighted to have a site provided by Vancouver Park Board at Wainborn Park, False Creek, Vancouver, British Columbia.
Wainborn Park
We deeply appreciate the welcome that was given the project by the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil Wautath First Nations to build the Monument on their unceded land.
The site that Park Board has provided is a jewel and we express a heartfelt thank you for their working so diligently with the Society.
And it is gift - the only cost will be for the installation of the Monument.
The preliminary design chosen, following public consultation, has been completed and the Society's immediate focus is to raise funds to complete the final design drawings. The cost of completing these drawings is $20,000.00 CAD.
All Donations go towards the completion of The Ireland Canada Monument.
