Tops Marketplace Community Rebuild Fund
Donation protected
Dear Southington Community,
There are no words!! We are so grateful for the support that you have shown in the wake of our tragedy on March 3rd when Tops Marketplace was devastated by fire. After 68 years of being in business, it’s so hard to think about starting from scratch. Your support and encouragement is deeply appreciated and is providing us with the energy and drive to rebuild – despite still mourning our loss.
We so appreciate the memories that our customers are sharing on facebook, in e-mails and in conversations. You have been so generous in your praise of our role in the community. You make us blush!
Many of you have asked how you can contribute to rebuilding Tops. We have been very reluctant to go down this path. After all, it is through your loyal support and patronage that has allowed us the honor and privilege to give back to the Community.
After several mentions of potential donation sites being established without our knowledge, we have decided to set up an official site. Since we have our community to thank for our success in business, we have decided that funds contributed to helping us rebuild, will eventually be donated back to the Southington Community. We have established a separate account, the Tops Marketplace Community Rebuild Fund. Funds received cannot be considered a tax deductible donation as we are a for-profit entity.
Once we have rebuilt our business, we will take great pride in donating these funds back to the Community in the form of food donations, Betsy’s gift baskets for charity auctions, catering non-profit events through Carmela Marie, sponsorships, food pantry donations and more!
While our intention is to rebuild and we are working diligently with our insurance company, there is the possibility that we may not be successful. After all these years of building a business, the challenge of dealing with such a heartbreaking loss, at the same time you are attempting to put a dollar value on the entire contents of a 14,000 square foot grocery store, is a daunting task. Nothing could have prepared us for this challenge. We have been advised to be patient and will do our best to move quickly and prudently forward.
If we are not successful in our ability to negotiate a positive outcome, and we believe that we’ll know within the next few months, we will be transparent. All funds that are contributed to the Tops Marketplace Community Rebuild Fund, will be donated to non-profit organizations that support the Community. That is why we have established a separate bank account.
Should you wish to contribute by check, please send it to the following address:
Tops Marketplace Community Rebuild Fund
c/o United Bank
158 N. Main Street
Southington, CT 06489
Thank you again for your continued outreach and support. Please check our facebook page for updates on our progress as we may not get to update this site as frequently in order to focus our efforts on rebuilding Tops Marketplace.
Sincerely,
John Salerno and Betsy Tooker
