Recently my cousin and his wife, Heather, found out they were expecting baby #2. They thought their first pregnancy check up would be routine, like it typically is for most people. Unfortunately, this check up was anything but routine. On March 11, 2019, Heather was diagnosed with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cervical cancer. This type of cancer only accounts for 1.5% of all cervical cancers.
Treating this type of cancer is extremely difficult and being pregnant adds even more challenges. Once Heather reached her 2nd trimester of pregnancy, she started her prescribed treatment plan which includes 5 rounds of chemotherapy, providing her body is able to handle it. After these 5 rounds of chemo, doctors will take the baby early by C-section, and Heather will undergo a radical hysterectomy. The baby will be in the NICU until his full term due date, and Heather will be in recovery for several weeks.
Heather and Jordan are great people. They are wonderful parents to their 10 month old son, Grayson, and were blessed to get the news that their family would soon be growing. They are trying their best to stay optimistic and to keep living each day with purpose.
With current medical bills, the many future medical bills to come, and the loss of Heather's income, I am hoping to help raise money to prevent any more stress on this young, amazing family. Even if you can't donate, please share this to spread the word!
