Treatment for Lyme Disease
Donation protected
It has been twelve years that my sister in-law and good friend Kristen
Onorato has been terribly sick with Lyme Disease. She was mis-diagnosed several times, and given medication for Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lupus. When Kristen was finally given a more accurate
blood test for Lyme Disease, and tested positive, her
doctor visits were no longer covered by her insurance. There have been times when she has been able to get a free consult, but any type of treatment for this disease is just not covered. One single treatment,
can cost two to three hundred dollars. Lyme Disease is prevalent, especially here in the Northeast where ticks are plentiful in the warmer months. Many people have suffered with this disease and Kristen has reached out and looked for advice from many whom she knows to also be suffering. A few have been able to receive beneficial treatments and feel better, resuming their normal activities. Kristen suffers daily with joint pain, and swelling in her wrists caused by loss of cartilage. She also has experienced a decline in her ability to clearly focus or concentrate at times.
I spoke with her recently, and she told me she just gets through the day doing what she HAS to do for her kids, and that is all she has the energy for. Kristen was always a high energy, active person, so this disease after twelve long years has really taken a toll on her body. Even more, its robbed her of the day to day joy in spending time with family and friends, or easily getting through a work day. Her High-School friends have girls weekend twice a year at least. Kristen has only made a few of these occasions in the last ten years.
There have been some recent advances for treatment for Lyme. Family and friends are looking for help so Kristen can take advantage of some of these treatments. One therapy she would like to try is oxygen and laser treatments.
The cost is prohibitive for anyone without the help of their insurance provider. Unfortunately, even with the medical advances to help treat people with the disease, insurance has not caught up with the trend. We need to help people with Lyme do more than just survive.
Kristen needs to get back to her life, enjoying her children, work and
family. She is a kind and loving person. She cares deeply for others in her life, even at times when she is so sick. She always reaches out to show others she cares. Please help, if only a small amount, we would appreciate your Love and Kindness.
