Build a House in Guatemala

Donation protected
On my fourth trip back to Guatemala, I wasn't sure what to expect. Each team has been different and has had a different purpose. One of my young friends on this trip had returned for her second time. She had brought gifts for some young children that she had fallen in love with the trip before. We scheduled a day for her and I to visit their home and deliver the goodies. As the driver took us there, my heart pounded.

Arriving at their home in a loosely-held-together shack in the middle of I’m-not-sure-where in the city, I couldn’t breathe. The mom and her two young children welcomed us in. The five of us barely fit. There was only a small twin bed for the family and the bathroom was outside. I looked into those young children’s eyes and the mom so concerned for her little ones and the tears in my young friend’s eye and I knew the whisper I was feeling in my soul, "bring others here to build a home," was real.

Each trip I wonder if we can make difference among this much poverty. And I’m still not sure how building this house can change the poverty I’ve seen, but I do know it will change the life of one family. One mom. One child.

Most houses in this area are built of lean-to corrigated tin, which is loosely bound together atop of floor of dirt. Beds are placed upon the  dirt and sheets sway in the wind as their front doors. These homes are hard to maintain as rain pours in and floors become muddy. There are no government programs or helps. Partnering with the Potter's House in this area has been a blessing. They are there to make a difference.

Finding out that it only cost $5500 to build a stable home in the Guatamala City Dump area, I knew that was the focus on this years trip. With your help we will do that. If we raise $11000, we will build two homes.

I hope you will partner with us in getting this done this September. If we could only grasp how one little act of kindness can make a huge difference then maybe we’d step out and do more. Let's get this done. Let's make a difference!
