Hello! My name is Billy…

I’m a unemployed 100% disabled veteran, who’s had a terrible run of horrible luck, over the course of the past two years. However, that horrible luck turned into a nightmare on Monday, May 16, 2022 @ approx. 12:40-45PM.

At that time, my family pet, farm working dog and emotional support animal was ruthlessly stabbed or shot with an arrow by some very disturbed individual in our small coal mining community of Oak Grove, Alabama.

Located due Northwest of Bessemer, Alabama along the Black Warrior River at Lock 17. Oak Grove is a small close knit community, a wonderful place to raise a family and enjoy the great Alabama outdoors.

Unfortunately, we have a very vile person living in this community amongst us and that person very nearly killed one of my family members.

That family member’s name is Cotton Morris.

Cotton is a 4 year old Great Pyrenees, that has been my best buddy, when no one else is around to see me struggle with my Post Traumatic Stress, Intermittent Explosive Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder.

See, that day Cotton was out and about performing his daily stroll, both inside and outside my property boundaries; when someone pierced his Left side with a broken piece of arrow, which appears intentionally designed to be used as a shank, shiv, etc… Whatever you prefer to call it, but I call it a deadly weapon a literal assault weapon if you please.

As that is exactly what happened! Someone assaulted my harmless pet, friend and co-worker here on my mini-farm. A small nearly 4 acre, fenced and cross fenced property in Oak Grove, where I primarily raise poultry. In the past, I have had rabbits and have even considered the possibility of raising Nubian/Boer goats or Nigerian Dwarf goats.

Anyways, I have several limitations and difficulties in my life at this moment and there’s exactly no telling the cost of saving my dear companions life, whose current at a veterinarian clinic located in Hueytown, Alabama.

He’s being provided excellent quality care by two wonderful DVM’s DR. Blake Champion and DR. Jeremy Birchfield along with a host of amazing assistants and staff at the Hueytown Veterinary Clinic and Pet Lodge.

For very difficult personal reasons, I’m experiencing financial difficulties at the moment; irregardless my buddy Cotton deserves to live and be provided that amazing quality of life saving treatment.

Cotton sustained a double lung puncture by the arrow which pierced his side. When Cotton returned to my feet while I was feeding and watering for the second time daily.

He collapsed at my feet to for all extensive purposes pass away at home on the property which he oversees 24/7 365…

In that moment, I in fear that I was going to lose him forever. My former military and EMT training surfaced and I went into action.

It’s certainly graphic, so please read no further if you are squeamish.

When Cotton collapsed at my feet, I immediately fled into the house, grabbed some Saran Wrap/Clinch Wrap from the kitchen and right back to his side in the field to render him aid… I very cautiously removed the arrow after realizing it was safe to do so due to the arrow having no resistance coming out of Cotton’s body cavity.

Yes, I’m very aware that it’s best to leave an impaled object in place if possible. However, in this case Cotton had a sucking chest wound and his breathing was very shallow and strenuous.

Upon removing the arrow with a bullet style field point tip from his Left side, I immediately wrapped his mid-section with a few tight wraps of the Saran Wrap/Clinch Wrap. This being practically an improvised chest seal, given the materials I had available.

Cotton nearly died, I begin to administer mouth to muzzle/nose assisted breathing. I called for my neighbor to come to my assistance to transport Cotton to the nearest Veterinary clinic.

I held pressure on the wound, rolled all the windows down in the vehicle and continued to assist breathe for Cotton until we arrived at the Hueytown Veterinary Clinic, where staff and doctors were standing by to take control of the situation.

Up to this point, Cotton has miraculously survived his extensive, deliberate and almost deadly attack. I have been in constant communication with the veterinary clinic and law enforcement personnel, but I need help due to my stressful financial situation to assist in covering the cost of Cotton’s life saving medical procedures and to catch the vile individual that is responsible for such a disgusting, heinous and heartless act.

So, please… If you find it in your heart to contribute to Cotton and my family during this most difficult time.

Please do so, if possible, without putting yourselves or your family in a difficult financial situation.

I promise that all monies donated will go directly to payment for his continued care provided by Hueytown Veterinary Clinic and Pet Lodge, located off Forest Road in Hueytown, Alabama.

Also, to assist in the apprehension of the individual(s) responsible for almost killing this wonderful and gentle family member.

Thank you so very much for your time and assistance! Your help and prayers are greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Respectfully,
Billy C. Morris & Bain K. Morris on behalf of Cotton Morris
