Help Publish The Unruly Budget Travel Guide

Thanks for stopping in! My name is Calen Otto, the creator of the Unruly Travel blog, and I'm here asking for your support. The goal of my blog is to inspire others to travel, so that they can learn, grow, and discover, while also making travel more accessible to different folks. Now, I'm working on publishing a book that does just that, and much more!

My travel style is unruly, alternative, vegan, socially aware, and is often done on a very small budget. In 2015 I used Gofundme to raise funds for a bike, with the idea of biking across the US. And guess what... I did just that! I started with only my bike and a $300 visa gift card, (and LOTS of Cliff bars!) and crossed the US by biking, hitchhiking, using Craigslist Rideshare, WWOOFing, and working for food and other necessities as I went. I learned that many of us are missing out on the education, liberation, and joy that travel can bring into our lives because we think that we can't possibly afford it. During my travels I learned that many of us can indeed travel if we learn the proper tips and methods to do so.

I took all that I learned from that bike trip, and traveling throughout 5 continents (North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe) and infused it into a travel guide. "The Art Of Unruly Travel On A Budget" is the final product, a 160+ page book.

The book provides step-by-step details, methods, and insights on alternative budget travel and shares how we can be more conscious and ethical along the way. It also is loaded with my favorite personal, raw, and inspiring travel tales with pictures to compliment them.

A publisher has already accepted my book and is ready to move forward with it. The last thing I need to push this project forward is to raise the money that it takes to have it published and printed. Some people have the publishers pay part of the costs upfront, but that takes away some of your control with your work. I chose a method of publishing that will allow me to start with 1,000 hard copies, keep all rights to my book, and have full control over the process.

The total publishing and print cost through Publication Consultants  to get The Art Of Unruly Travel On A Budget physically in our hands is $3,500. This covers 1,000 hardback copies, corrections, design, editing, photo correcting, proofing, printing, and much more.

Anyone who donates $35 or more will get a signed copy of the book when it is first printed! It is also a great resource for non-travelers who are looking to spend less in their everyday life.

I plan on selling this book throughout my travels in the US all over the world. I will be selling the book out of my van on my next road trip(s), distributing it to bookstores all over North Carolina, and taking as many copies of the book with me while backpacking in other countries. I will promote the book in-person and through my online platform, while trying to get it into as many bookstores as possible.

I can't wait to make travel more accessible, have conversations about ethics through travel, and inspire people to live more authentically through this book!
