Urgent Care Needed for Draco

DRACO SUFFERED A STAB WOUND FROM AN INTRUDER.

UPDATE 6.29.24: We are still in the process of getting Draco the medical attention she so desperately needs. The response to her story has been overwhelming, and we are so grateful. We have graciously received a flurry of referrals to various programs and clinics. Unfortunately, most are now closed for the weekend, many others are at capacity, or not equipped to provide emergency surgery, especially out of their jurisdiction. The owner, being unhoused, does not have a means of communication or transportation so we are coordinating with volunteers. It’s easy to forget how hard things can be when you do not have the luxuries of a working phone, a mode of transportation, or safety net of friends and family. However, we are determined to help Draco as best we can because no animal deserves to suffer. Fortunately, we are coordinating with Oakland Animal Services to get Draco treated as fast as possible. 6.27.24: My name is Hannah, and I volunteer with Homies Empowerment to provide food and supplies to unhoused owners and their pets in east Oakland encampments. One of the gentleman we help support, Drew, has several dogs that he cares for and loves deeply. His pups are always friendly and eager to say hi when we visit.

Unfortunately, their encampment had a late night intruder who attacked the owner and stabbed two of their dogs. One of their girls suffered minor wounds (superficial cuts), but Draco, his 2 year old Dobie/Shepherd girl was severely injured. She has a deep laceration on her chest that requires immediate medical care. The estimate for the cost is upwards of $8,000 but this cannot go unaddressed.

Drew would be eternally grateful for any support in sharing his story and helping Draco so she can get proper medical care to treat this potentially life-threatening injury.
