Urgent Relief for Ali's and Mohammed's Displaced Family

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kristy. I'm from the US and I am helping my friends brothers Ali and Mohammed Eliyan and their family of six raise funds for daily expenses and eventual evacuation from Gaza. The family is originally from North Gaza in the Jabalia Camp, but were forced to flee to Al-Mawasi Khan Younis in the south due to the extreme violence after Oct 7th. Soon after being displaced, they learned that their home had been bombed and they had nowhere to return to.

Here's a message from Mohammed, along with photos and videos of him and Ali amongst the devastation, as he's far more qualified than I am to describe the daily horrors he and his family have been through in the past 9 months:

"I am Mohammed Eliyan. My family consists of 6 people from northern Gaza City, which was torn by war.

I graduated in operational nursing and worked in the Indonesian Hospital on a volunteer basis.

After a few days, news came that the entire hospital had been evacuated. The occupation told us to evacuate the city of northern Gaza and head south of the Strip.

My family and I went there to a house. My relatives and I sat without electricity, gas, or clothing, without the minimum necessities of life. After a period of staying in the city, the occupation ordered us to evacuate from the city of Khan Yunis and go to the west of the city in what is called the city of Al-Mawasi.

We stayed there in a nylon tent that did not protect from the cold and did not protect from the hot rays of the sun. Our skins became burnt from the sun’s rays. The sunstrokes are haunting us day after day, so I hope that you will help us evacuate from Gaza City and go to safety.

You now know that the borders are closed, but also the prices here are astronomical. Your donations help us obtain food. Your generous help may make a big difference for us. Thank you very much."

The members of the family who will benefit from this fundraiser are:

Jaber (father)-61
Nihad (mother)-60
Ansam (daughter)-36
Ali- (son)-29
Donia (daughter)-26
Mohammed (son)-23

The funds will go towards:

  • $5,000-10,000/per adult for the crossing fees: These change frequently and without notice, so we are aiming for the high end of the range as a precaution against being short on funds when the time comes.

  • Basic daily necessities: Due to aid being blocked, there are shortages and everything is very expensive. A simple thing like two avocados is $15. A dozen eggs is $11-20. A bottle of potable water is ~$10. A lemon is $4! Shampoo, if they can find it, is $70/bottle.

  • GoFundMe fees: 2.9% + .30 of every donation

  • Wire fees: This varies, depending on the amount of the transfer. I will be sending them frequent wires rather than one lump sum, so that they have cash on hand regularly for essentials and so that they can coordinate evacuation more readily.

  • Exchange Office fees: Unfortunately, the Exchange Offices in Gaza charge a whopping 30% (!) when money is withdrawn.

  • Funds to survive on in Egypt post-evacuation: Families in Gaza have not had a regular income in 9 months; it will take time to find employment in Egypt. The family should have a little padding so that they aren't suffering when they are externally displaced.

To ensure the funds reach Mohammed, Ali and their family, your kind and generous contributions will be wired by me directly to his cousin in the West Bank, who will then transfer them to the family via Western Union. I have wired personal funds to the family in this manner and it was seamlessly successful.

If you have previously donated to this family, please note that Mohammed and his older brother Ali had separate GFMs that were managed by Mohammed's gracious friend, Amina. After a consultation, we decided that it made more sense to consolidate the two GFMs and for me to manage a single fundraiser, as I have the extra time to do so. Any funds you have donated in the past will be sent by Amina directly to Mohammed via wire and Western Union for swift and secure delivery and then the two GFMs will be closed out.

Here are screen caps of transfers made by Amina:

Thank you to everyone who has already donated to help Mohammed, Ali, and the rest of their family! You are amazing people! xo
