Visit Bethlehem: a play

When I moved to London from Palestine two years ago, I realised that most people in England don't even know Bethlehem is a real city. It's not just a fictional place from the Bible or Christmas songs, it's a living, breathing Palestinian city under military occupation. So I wrote a play about it. I'm a professional actor from Palestine, and this is my first opportunity to establish myself and share the story of my country in the UK.
And with the help of director Zoe Lafferty, I now have the opportunity to show my one-man political comedy 'Visit Bethlehem' at the VAULT festival in London from 19 Feb - 21 March 2020!
We applied and got a slot at the festival at the last possible minute, and so we have not had the chance to apply for funding. This is why I need your help. If you believe in sharing the true story of Palestine, please help support the costs of my play. £800 will cover the costs of a small PA system, insurance, props and costumes. Anything extra will help go towards marketing!!

About the play:
When a group of tourists visit Bethlehem the last thing they expect is a tour of Palestine’s smallest refugee camp. Inspired by Osama’s true story ‘Visit Bethlehem’ is a fun yet brutal exploration of the highs and lows of one young clown living under military occupation.
Osama is from Al Azza refugee camp in Bethlehem, Palestine. He grew up living under military occupation with tear gas, bullets, nightly curfews and army invasions. His dream is to be a professional clown but with few chances to make money he ends up taking tourists around the birth place of Jesus, the Church of the Nativity. One day he snaps and decides to take his group of visitors to his refugee camp ten minutes down the road and show them the conditions that Palestinians really live under.
