West Virginia Grass Roots Summit
Donation protected
If you have not noticed, Upshur County Indivisible and Upshur County Indivisible-Votes have been busy. We meet regularly and hold actions, one of which was a Pride Talent Show, the first ever Pride event in Upshur County, a March for Truth, writing postcards and letters, making calls, attending organizer training sessions, and more. We were recognized in a recent PBS article and news story http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/meet-women-taking-stand-trump-country/ and http://www.pbs.org/newshour/features/trump-west-virginia/. We have been on Enlighten Radio several times and have had great coverage from our local media.
I am reaching out to our members and supporters to invite you to our upcoming event: West Virginia Grassroots Summit to be held September 29-30 at the Event Center at Brushy Fork in Buckhannon, WV. We fought to have this summit right here in our own back yard! In addition to inviting you to join us, we are asking for donations to help us make this event a success.
West Virginia Grassroots Summit is a two-day planning and grassroots-organizing event. People all across our state are rising up to fight for equality for themselves, their families, and their neighbors - not for big donors on Wall Street. In West Virginia, we believe in freedom for all people regardless of gender, race, class, orientation, disability, or status. During our two day event, participants will have the opportunity to join in on trainings, rallies, projects, networking opportunities, round-table discussions, and more - if you are standing up for yourself, your family, and/or your community, this summit is for you!
Partner organizations include: Our Vote Our Future, WV Progressive Alliance, WV Working Families, WV AFL-CIO, WV Citizen Action Education Fund, Mercer Resistance, Mountaineers for Progress, WV Indivisible, WV FREE Action Fund, RiseUp WV, Wood County Indivisible, and Planned Parenthood Votes.
Guest speakers and invited presenters include: WV Center on Budget and Policy, Our Children Our Future Safety Net Campaign, WV for Affordable Health Care, Sierra Club, ACLU-WV, Planned Parenthood WV, Kanawha Valley DSA, WV Healthy Kids and Families Coalition, Call to Action for Racial Equality, Partnership for Furthering Arts and Education (Pfae), Heritage Towns Museum Committee to End 21st Century Slavery, Poetik Entertainment, Metropolitan Catering & Entertainment… and we’re just getting started!
The Goals we are striving to achieve at the WV Grassroots Summit:
1) To build relationships, stronger ties, and better communications among grassroots leaders and organizations in West Virginia – across the state.
2) To provide concrete training, education, and resources to new and emerging leaders and organizers across the state.
3) To begin strategizing and unifying leaders and organizations toward the 2018 elections.
4) Promoting the message that Hate has No Home Here in West Virginia
Registration details coming soon!
Our goal is to make this event free for all, except for accommodations and dinner (with scholarships given to those in need of financial assistance who would stay with hosts in Upshur County).
In Upshur County, our contribution will be $1,500 to the overall summit, as well as taking care of logistics and hosting, which is a lot of work; we will collaborate in the overall program planning with particular emphasis on budget, fundraising, and break-out sessions on supporting marginalized communities in WV. In addition, we are solely planning and the Hate Has No Home Here Rally with support from Working Families. We are expecting a large crowd of 300 or more people and envision this being a tribute to our beautiful home among the hills with music, signs, speakers, food, tabling, school contests, and family activities. The rally is unlimited. Workshops limited to 300 people.
Here is what we need:
