November 11, 2023-from Audrey Spangler, Grace's sister

Our loving Grace, who's typical role as a compassionate caretaker and talented ICU Nurse in Raleigh, has taken a drastic role change in the last 48 hours. As of today, November 10th, Grace has been officially diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia (APML). While Grace's sudden and unexpected diagnosis comes as a shock to all of us, Grace and our family remain incredibly optimistic about the aggressive treatment plan developed by her team at Duke University. Grace will require a minimum of 28 days of inpatient oncology treatment due to the risks associated with this aggressive treatment plan. The future beyond these critical 28 days will be filled with a cascade of rigorous outpatient infusions and continuous monitoring. Grace's incredible care team have advised that the minimum treatment time for APML is 7 challenging months. An undeniable fact of this prognosis is that Grace will not only face the mental and physical challenges of this cancer, but that she will also face the financial implications of this sort of prognosis. Unfortunately, and while financial consideration remain a distant and hopeful sign of future days spent together, we do need to assure Grace's financial needs are handled during this treatment. Although Grace is never one to ask for help, always humbly and empathetically addressing everyone else's needs before her own, she needs any support possible at this time. Even if folks are unable to contribute financially, our family kindly asks for your prayers and positive light in the coming days. We face each day expectantly, knowing that this is the beginning of Grace's battle and long journey ahead.

Our family has been humbled by the overwhelming outpouring of love and support for our sweet Grace thus far! We are eternally grateful for the kindness and generosity that has been shown!

November 9, 2023

Hi friends! Jlo here! As most of you know, Grace, our beautiful friend and coworker had a health scare yesterday and was transferred to Duke. This morning she received the diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia. While the prognosis is promising, the treatment requires her to take time off of work and stay in the hospital for at least 28 days. As you can imagine this diagnosis and hospital stay will not only affect her emotionally and physically, but financially as well. Many of you have asked how they could support Grace and I thought donations towards any expenses, whether it be medical or household bills, could be one way in addition to the many prayers and well wishes. I know she appreciates you all reaching out to her and sending her love and strength! Keep them coming! She is one of the strongest people I know and I'm confident she will come out on top. Thank you all.
