Owen's Top Surgery!

Hello Friends, Family and Friends Yet to be Made!

My name is Owen and I am a 20-year-old trans man (he/they). I recently started testosterone on February 2nd, 2023. I am so glad to have access to this healthcare and happy to move on to the next step in my transition: Top Surgery.

This procedure would dramatically increase my quality of life as I would be able to feel more comfortable in my body and others would be able to more easily recognize me as who I really am. This surgery will also help me feel safer. With testosterone, I can start developing more ‘masculine’ features, such as a deep voice and facial hair. And while that is the goal, with the rest of my body not matching that it would be easier for strangers to notice that I am trans and some might target me for that. A way that I have tried to combat my gender dysphoria is with chest binders. But the problem I run into with those is that they trigger my sensory issues (caused by my autism) and send me into meltdowns. Which is not productive when I’m at work or school. I feel so incredibly lucky to live in a place where access to this care is even possible, but that doesn’t mean that being openly trans is safe.

It also means that my insurance wouldn’t cover a procedure like this as the condition it helps (gender dysphoria) is not life-threatening. This procedure would still be life-saving and life-changing for me. I would be able to finally feel safe and at home in my body, something I have never felt in my whole life. All money given will go to paying for this very expensive procedure.
