Austin had an appendectomy on November 12th. He recovered and was released within 24 hours. He even wanted to go back to school the following Monday! He went back to school, but took a few days off because he was tired later in the week. Over Thanksgiving break, he developed a fever that stuck around for about 10 days.
His symptoms escalated on Sunday (11/29). Monday (11/30) Austin went to the pediatrician, surgeon, and finally to Dell. He had a cat scan and they found an abscess on his liver. Unfortunately, this is not a quick fix. The doctors ran tests, trying to rule things out to hopefully figure out what will take care of this infection.
After a week of waiting and fevers, Austin had another cat scan and a procedure to drain the abscess.
He has been on a handful of different antibiotics to try and kill the infection that caused the abscess, Benadryl to fight the reaction he had to one of the antibiotics, plasma, vitamins, and fluids. He is one tough kid!!
Mindy, Austin's mom, has been by his side through this whole process. Derrol, Austin's dad, and Mindy's mom, Ginny, have been taking care of Austin's twin sisters, Savannah and Berkeley. Derrol is able to work from home, but Mindy's teacher position is not so easy to do from the hospital. Austin's fight is still on going, but the hospital bills from the first surgery are starting to come in. Please help anyway you can!
