GKP: Monofilament PVC Recycle Bin

Donation protected

Purpose:

Improperly discarded mono-filament fishing line causes devastating problems for birdlife, marine life and the environment. Wildlife, humans, and machinery can all be damaged by this improperly discarded line. The goal is to build approximately ten Mono-filament Recycle Bins throughout Great Kills Park Beach on Staten Island, NY, placed stra
tegically as to encourage positive recycling and disposal habits to keep the beach clean. The building of such boxes are needed as our coastal beaches are seeing an increase in fishing line animal entanglements. The hope is to help protect all species who utilize our coastal areas, by allow
ing for ease of disposal to prevent further suffering to wildlife.

These mono-filament fishing line recycling boxes are essential to the proper disposal of said line. Without them , a continuation of improper disposal of fishing line will have a lasting effect on the wildlife and environment of Great Kills Park beach. The National Park Service has been unable to provide these disposal oxes since they have not had the physical man power or resources to undertake this project. By taking on this project, we not only look to help the National Park Service, and Gateway National Recreation Area, but also protect the coastal wildlife of Staten Island

As the weather gets better, now is a crucial time to work and install this fishing line receptacles as the fish becomes more heavily utilized by fishermen in the upcoming summer months. Great Kills Park has a large fishermen populus who use its resources, but currently there are no proper disposal areas.

In order to accomplish this project, money needs to be raised to purchase the raw materials needed to build the Monofilament receptacles and install them onto the Great Kills Beach.  These materials include:
2 10 Foot x 6 inch PVC Pipes
PVC Elbows
PVC Female Threaded Adapters
PVC Threaded Plugs
PVC Adhesive
Nails

Money will also be needed to pay for supplies for use throughout the building and installation days.
Safety Supplies- Safety Goggles (Recommended for all participants, and required for the persons pounding the Wooden Post into the ground), Safety Gloves (For all Participants),
Refreshments- Cases of Bottle Water and Cases of Energy Drinks
Food- Pizza will be provided for lunch, Healthy Snacks will be available throughout the process
Garbage Bags

The building process will commence on 6/18/2017, so all materials must be secured by then to follow through with that process. The installation date will be the following Sunday, 6/25/2017, and subsequently all supplies for then must be raised by then as well. Any support will be greatly appreciated. No matter the size of the donation, any amount will help us reach our goal so that I can get this project accomplished. As my Eagle Scout project, it means a lot if anyone can donate to help support me. As a conservation project, all donations will help better the coastal wildlife of Staten Island, and help encourage proper disposal habits.
