Gillian and her family have been affected for years by Crohn's Disease. They have been separated for weeks at a time during Gillian's hospital stays in Sioux Falls and Rochester, MN. Gillian's parents have been active members in our small community of Estelline. Estelline is a giving community and if everyone could give a small donation to Gillian's family, it would be one less burden for the Morris family to bear.
Please consider contributing any amount, anything and everything helps and Gillian and her family appreciate it beyond measure.
Gillian, now 14 years old, was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2008. She spent over 3 weeks in the hospital at that time. Gillian had a flare-up the following year and spent another 3 weeks in the hospital trying to get it under control. They had managed to keep the Crohn’s in remission for several years with the following medications and/or combinations of Remicade, 6-MP, Humira, Methotrexate, and Cimzia. She is currently trying Entyvio to help get her to remission.
Gillian has suffered additional flares in May 2013 and April 2014. The flare in May 2013 kept her hospitalized for 30 days. The recent flare in April 2014 was a 22 day hospital stay and was never really in remission throughout the summer. She was hospitalized again in July 2014 for the continuing flare for 17 days.
Gillian’s case of Crohn’s is very severe; therefore, she has bloodwork often and several colonoscopies throughout the year to check on remission and effectiveness of the medications. The goal is to get her to remission and keep her there, because there is no cure for Crohn’s yet.
Even with all these trials, Gillian continues to thrive in school and her activities. She will be in the 8th grade. Gillian is involved with 4H, volleyball, basketball, and figure skating. Gillian also enjoys reading, playing soccer, playing with her 4H animals, and watching NCIS, The Twilight Zone, and The Big Bang Theory on TV. Gillian lives at home with her parents, brother Mason, and a menagerie of pets.
