Hoop for the Future 2016

Donation protected
On September 17, 2016, Monique Fletcher and Ashley Bogar brought their idea for a charity event to life, the first annual Hoop for the Future event came to life.  Hoop for the Future is a charity that provides students with the necessities to get through the school year.  Our goal for Hoop for the Future is to provide a safe event, necessary school supplies for the upcoming year, and a positive message to leave with.  We did just that.
Hoop for the Future was hosted by comedian Shavar Hooper, he kept the crown engaged before during and after the game.  Before the game we had motivational speaker iamLyric bless the crowd with her words.  She made sure everyone in the crowd knew that regardless of your downfalls you can always get back up and regardless of how many struggles you may endure you can always push through.  We also had a poetry election from high school freshman Nilah Muhammad, reminding us that we are here for a purpose our ancesters fought hard for us to succeed and that is what we shall be doing.  We also had Barbabra "Roxie Digital" Delau speak about sickle cell and how it effects out community.  She also introduced our honoree, Ms. Natasha Phillips who just recently lost her battle with Sickle Cell.  Monique and Ashley donated to the Candace Sickle Cell foundation.
The game was a very intense one.  Both teams were a mix of adults and local high school teens.  Of the adults we had semi-professional football player Jaleel Taylor, comedian Darius Dk, and music artists Fat Suge, Ant Vercetti, Robbie Maxx, Tonestory, Dougie F, and Chad B.  During half time we had Kev Soze the creator of the very popular running man challenge, preform and include the crowd in a dance session.  After a close game we distributed trophies to the winning team, along with pizza, snacks, and waters for all the kids in attendance along with their backpacks.

Monique and Ashley plan to continuje this event annually they just need your help to do so.  Last year we paid everything out of pocket because of the lack of donations this year we are hoping we can get a little help to make the event a bigger success!!
