Jerry loved community celebrations that brought everyone together. Even better if the celebration was in support of charity. Jerry's Friends Day will accomplish all this as we pay tribute to a father/friend/leader/volunteer/mentor to so many in Windsor, Essex County, and the track community across Canada. This event will not only pay tribute to Jerry, who passed away in May of this year, but also thank his many friends and volunteers for their years of support and friendship.
The funds donated to this open community event will help offset activity costs with the remaining proceeds being donated to the charities that were especially important to Jerry.
We greatly appreciate donations being made prior to the event date of August 25, 2018. It is our goal to pay all invoices prior or immediately following the event on August 25th. Our aim is to transfer of remaining funds to charities by September 7th, 2018.
The common denominator in all of Jerry's activities comes down to access to opportunity. For healthcare, his volunteer work with the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, and, Windsor Hospice was the opportunity for patients to receive compassionate care close to home. For Knobby's Kids, it was the opportunity to provide hockey for little or no cost to families. For the University, it was the opportunity to build a significant kinesiology program and robust track club. For the running community, it was the opportunity for Windsor to become a leading host for national and international meets. And the list can go on for so many more opportunities that Jerry championed.
Your support of Jerry's Friends Day is an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate all that Jerry tried to accomplish over 85 eventful years. Many of the activities of the day reflect his work with displays and activities from Hospice, William Macri 4th Watch, University of Windsor Athletic Club, Knobby's Kids, St. Clair College and more. The evening will culminate in Jerry's favourite event - a firework display.
Your support will help us recognize and pay tribute to one of Windsor's extraordinary volunteers.
Everyone is invited to join Jerry's Friends Day on Saturday, August 25th starting at 5 pm, Alumni Field, University of Windsor.
