Jesse Apgar- Our heroic friend

Jesse has fought fires tirelessly since Sunday morning. As Jesse’s home burned down, he was putting out fires that were consuming the homes of his neighbor’s and friends. 

 
For those of you who don’t know him, Jesse is the kind of person that doesn’t have to be asked to give help.  He shows up.  He sees a job not being done and does it—like appearing with a tractor to grade a friend’s mom’s driveway. He has been a volunteer firefighter with Mayacamas VFD since he was old enough to join. 

 
As people discover their barns and homes still standing in the middle of devastation, Jesse’s name keeps popping up… He has been everywhere this week, implicated in the defense of so many places.  He has slept a few hours here and there in his firetruck this week, wearing the only clothing left that he owns. 


The home he left Sunday early morning is burned, all possessions gone, except his car. Much of this fire’s devastation has already destroyed the places that Jesse has shaped and cared for:  The vineyards he has been replanting at Mayacamas; His family's vineyard and home at Sky; His cousin's home...and many more.  Jesse is also burdened by the grief and need for support being experienced by his extended family, friends, and business relations. 


We know that Jesse will be there for us, we want to be there for him.  Please consider a donation to help him rebuild what he has lost.  Any donation is considered a generous amount, be it with so many in need. 

I have known Jesse for 27 years.  After talking with a number of his friends and family about how he has shown up during this time, and what he has lost, we felt moved to ask the broader community to help him.  He deserves it.  While we would like raise cash for him, we may also put together a registry, as there are many things the man could use, and ways to help.  He won't be the type to ask himself.
