Hello there friends and acquaintances,
As you may have heard, our favorite friend, writer, goofball, adventurer, teacher, and all-around great gal, Kerry McGuire was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
The good news is that the prognosis is positive, although her diagnosis turned out to be more serious than it was originally thought to be. At first, the cancer was diagnosed as in situ, the lowest level, but after her lumpectomy the tumor was discovered to be invasive, level 1c. This meant that instead of her original treatment plan of radiation only, she has to receive 18 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by 5 weeks of daily radiation. And nope - it doesn't stop there! She'll have continuing IV injections of herceptin every three weeks for a year, and then have to take hormone suppressing medication for another five years. But - back to the good news, after all that she's expected to make a full recovery! Hooray!
The bad news is that all of this costs substantial $$$!! We're starting this GoFundMe to help Kerry out with her considerable medical bills as well as help with some day-to-day living expenses so she can concentrate on getting well.
