The Leaning Post Ranch

I have an adult child with autism and a mitochondrial disorder that affects his coordination, gait, muscle tone and energy levels.   Ryan is a great kid; (and I don't say this because I am his mom). He is kind, caring, works hard at his job ( he has a BS in Horticulture) and will probably live with us for the long haul.  The majority of his life centers around family.

Ryan started taking therapeutic riding lessons at The Leaning Post Ranch 17 years ago.  He continues to ride there.  The ranch changed Ryan's life by giving him a venue for success. Something that children like my son, don't often get to  experience.

Watch the video.   My sentiments still remain the same.  My son is different on a horse.  While Ryan is on a horse, he  is the same as you and me. You would never know that he has any disabilities at all.  It is really hard to explain, but when I watch Ryan ride, he transforms into another person.  And the effects translate to how he carries himself while there and when we get home.   It's phenomenal.  The ranch is his happy place.

The Leaning Post Ranch works with people with disabilities, at-risk youth and veterans in the Northwestern Florida Panhandle. The ranch opened in 1992 and is a PATH accredited center.  They offer "health, hope and healing through horses."  I truly believe in this.

The program is in dire financial need  and needs your help to stay operational.

I am appealing to friends and family and my community to help sustain the program and keep my son's happy place open.
