Help military museum thrive!

The National Military Heritage Museum is a museum in St. Joseph, MO that provides the community with the education of all branches of the United States military from as early as the Revolutionary War. Recently, an entire new staff started at the museum in order to preserve and enhance it. The new staff discovered shortly after starting that the museum had very little budget left to continue. Along with this, they have several other barriers that they need to get through to bring this museum to its top potential.

·         Almost all of the office equipment is so old, they can’t find parts to repair them, they aren’t compatible with newer computers, and cannot be serviced.

·         Their computers are running Windows XP, so are no longer serviceable.

·         There are two bathrooms upstairs that are in disrepair and require new plumbing.

·         Office furniture is run down, dirty, and broken.

·         Many items were not properly stored and need storage solutions that will satisfy the standards set forth by the American Alliance of Museums

·         There is no central air system in the museum, therefore conditions in the building are not suitable for the collections

·         There are currently no interactive displays or educational aspects in the displays, therefore the staff is trying to implement programs that will make military history fun for everyone.

As you can see, the museum is in need of updating many things, but has very limited funding.

 

The staff at the National Military Heritage Museum took on this project because of their passion for preserving history and educating the public about the history of the military. With your help, their mission will be successful.

 

The new staff and board members consist of five veterans with combined service of over 60 years, a history major, and several others with expertise in various fields. Everyone currently working or volunteering at the museum is involved because of their love for the military and history. It is their goal to bring the museum into the 21st century, implement child education programs to teach military history, and preserve the artifacts.

Below is a specific list of some of the things the staff will be providing for the museum from donations:

- Bathroom repairs to allow public access to the bathrooms.
- A central air system, so that temperatures in the collection storage areas can be maintained to preserve artifacts.
- New display cases, electronic equipment for interactive displays, and proper storage solutions.
- Materials to build an interactive trench that visitors will be able to walk through and experience the story of what soldiers experienced during WW1.
- Newer printers and scanners to maintain the office and catalog the document collections.
