Welcome to nolaNOW theatre!
We are a contemporary theatre company in New Orleans, Louisiana planning our first full season of shows! We have a passion for sharing stories that challenge stereotypes, uplift marginalized voices, and demonstrate the societal impact of contemporary theater. As part of our mission to embrace contemporary voices in theatre while cultivating intimacy, empathy, and mindfulness, all plays will have been written within the past ten years.
We’ve learned a lot in our first year of creating. The biggest is that we know it takes a village to raise a kid. We’ve been continually touched by our community’s support: from donations from all of you to all our team members we’ve gained along the way.
Our goal this season is to not only produce good work, but also guarantee that our artist’s work is compensated— from the actors on stage to our crew backstage and even our regular volunteer editors and organizers.
We are working very hard to support our endeavors through as many facets as possible. We are applying for many grants offered throughout the city. In order for most grants to approve our requests, we need proof that we have raised at least half of our requested budget through other sources. This is why we come to you, our beloved, passionate, beautiful community.
For our first full season— consisting of two main stage productions and a lagniappe series of community events—our goal is to raise 10,000 for the season through grants, events, and your support.
Where will your money go, you wonder?
Here is a list of just a few of the expenses we need to cover!
SCRIPT RIGHTS (generally 100/performance)
CREATIVE TEAM (it's a very meaningful part of our mission to pay our artists humanely. Many artists are never compensated for their work. We do not believe this to be fair. We vow to pay any artists involved in our processes an absolute minimum of a $200 stipend. Our goals for the future include more livable wages. Below is a list of the minimum amount of roles that need to be involved in order to make a show happen

Lighting designer
Costume designer
Box office manager
MARKETING COSTS
Printing posters, postcards, and playbills is a huge expense in itself, at a general minimum of $300.
REHEARSAL SPACE
spaces are a huge, huge part of budgeting for us. Renting out studios for an entire rehearsal process comes out to about $900 minimum.
PERFORMANCE SPACE
Many incredible community spaces in town want to help out young companies like us. With that said, these spaces still deserve to be compensated for their contributions. A minimum of $300 is spent on performance space.
And so much more.
