I have been here 25 years - all of it down in Kyushu, the big island at the bottom.

Remember the Kumamoto Earthquake in April 2016? We did 6 trips into the earthquake area taking food and supplies.

We need money to help companion animals in distress.

Specifically, we aim to Trap, Neuter and Release 50 street cats this year - and we need your help to do it.

Our doors are open to any animal that doesn't actively regard us as lunch... At present that is mostly cats.

Currently, every year a vast number of kittens born on the streets of Japanese cities. They have zero street sense and are mostly killed by cars, crows, and ultimately, cold if they make it through to winter.

The life of a female street cat is one of almost permanent pregnancy.  And then she dies.

So in addition to rescuing animals we have recently started a TNR operation.

TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, Release.

Neutering and releasing is the only humane way to control feral/street cat populations. We mostly work around Fukuoka, but have just started to work in Nagasaki, 100 miles to the south west.

Females or injured animals are our first priority. We try and take kittens off the streets completely.

But we do male cats too, of course. Spayed males fight less and live longer. They are also less inclined to mark their territories by spraying - which makes them more acceptable as community cats.

We treat injuries and control parasites before we release any animal - and of course, we rehome it if it isn't too feral.

In general we focus on neuter/spaying at sites where we know the cats will be maintained.

We, or our volunteers, do a lot of follow-up work to monitor the animals' welfare and to inform  or educate the local community.

This year - 2017- we plan to TNR 50 cats, and (probably) rescue around 25 more off the streets for rehoming.

In addition we expect to "trip over" another 25 or so animals that require our help.

That "100 animals" figure isn't a commitment, it is a target. But with your help we can exceed it.

We need money to do three thing:

1: Fund our TNR operation. (Neuter/spaying)

2: Vaccinate, neuter and microchip the animals we rescue while we rehome them.

3: Develop our very basic shelter to allow it to accommodate more animals.

We post pictures of all animals we TNR to our website. https://catnip.or.jp/en/tnr/returned_cats/ .

Commencing 2017, we will also ALWAYS add trap & release videos, for every cat, to our FaceBook Page and our YouTube Channel.  This lets you keep track of what we are doing. We will also post it as an update here.

Nobody in the NPO is paid. All money sent through gofundme is spent directly on animals. We will provide a full accounting of all funds raised through this appeal.

As a registered NPO we are governed by Japanese law and registered with the local prefecture. (Here: http://www.nvc.pref.fukuoka.lg.jp/f_cities/profile/3167 )

We publish our accounts annually. We have a board of trustees and a Director.

Our full legal name is "NPO [houjin] Companion Animal Trust Nippon".

My full legal name is Alisdair Benjamin Nicolas May - you may see any variation of that on links to Youtube, Amazon, Facebook etc.
