Pfeuffer Family

This is our family. We live a normal life doing everyday normal things. I have worked in the field of education for 9 years, and Brian has worked as a Cleveland police officer for 17 years, as well as having served in the National Guard for 17 years. Last year (2017), Brian was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He had surgery and completed the radioactive iodine therapy treatment. This required about 3-4 weeks off of work which consumed much of his sick time. He recovered fully from this cancer,  and we celebrated with a trip to Universal Studios with our family (see picture).  Brian started not feeling well again soon after our trip.  A few doctor appointments  later and a few months of misery, he was diagnosed with throat cancer this June, 2018. The cancer is extensive in his neck, throat, and lymph nodes.  It is rare to have two completely different cancers in the neck area within one year of one another. He will require 7 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.  He will not be able to work most of this time and will need an additional 6-8 weeks after treatment to heal and regain his strength. This will be an extensive amount of time off work. He has some sick and comp time he can use, but much of it was absorbed with his bout of cancer last year. We are worried about our finances in the coming months. We have both always each worked a full time job and part time job to support our family. Brian works extra shifts and his days off, and I teach as an adjunct in addition to my full time job. Brian is already thinking about when he needs to return to work to keep our finances in order, and treatment hasn't even started.  Monday,  July 2 is the start. I would like him to be able to focus on getting well. Our pay will be decreased significantly in the months to come as we will not be working our extra part time jobs, and Brian will run out of sick time.  Friends suggested we turn to GoFundMe for support.  I am thankful for those who have read our story and are able to support us in any way they can, including thoughts and prayers.
