Vision for Empowerment: Kolkata Photography Project
I am a professional wedding photographer based in St. Augustine, Florida. This JANUARY 2017 I am headed to Kolkata, India to lead my second series of Vision for Empowerment photography workshops to 10 women who are survivors of trafficking and other human rights abuses.

These women have been given education and employment opportunities by a Florida-based nonprofit called Made By Survivors.
Made By Survivors began in 2005 and I met the founder, Sarah Symons, last fall. She was previously a full-time musician and after seeing a film on human trafficking (The Day My God Died), she flew to India and Nepal to see how she could get involved. Long story short, Sarah and her husband quit their jobs and have dedicated their lives to freeing trafficked women and children— and most importantly, keeping them free.
MBS has employed some of Asia's first women goldsmiths and their jewelry is sold worldwide. Sarah's focus has always been to provide education and opportunity.
You may be wondering: What is my purpose? Why do I want to fly 2,000 miles to work in the slums of one of India's most populated cities to teach 10 young women the art of photography?
Because I have been blessed with many opportunities in my life—as a professional artist, an educator and a female business owner— and I want to share the gift of photography with young women that have not been given the same opportunities.
