Project Deliver Coolyay Home

This is a story about Coolyay, a 1-year old American Pit Bull Terrier that was rescued by Lucky Paws Rescue in Albuquerque, New Mexcio afer having been abandoned with another dog in a backyard. 

On December 18, 2016 Coolyay was lost during a car accident that occurred while his family was traveling from Albuquerque to Reidsville, NC to spend the holidays with their extended family. As their minivan traveled along the stretch of I-40 and Sandy Ridge Road in Greensboro, NC, it collided with a tractor trailer and rolled several times fatally injuring the family's 11-year old daughter Tori Bannerman and seriously injuring the father Colton Bannerman. Coolyay fled the scene and could not be located by the Police.

Almost two weeks later, I spotted Coolyay in my neighborhood which is nearly 6 miles from the crash site.  He was too frightened to allow anyone to approach him. With the help of others, including Project Racing Home, I captured him in a human trap and transported him to Guilford County Animal Services. Thanks to a registered microchip, GCAS was able to notify his family who were still in Reidsville.  They were briefly reunited Coolyay, but they had scheduled flights to return to Albuquerque the very next day.

In consideration of Coolyay's stress level, a decision was made by the family to delay his transport. The Haley Graves Foundation is graciously covering the cost of Coolyay's boarding costs as part of their community outreach program. I am seeking donations for the cost of a commerical pet transport so that Coolyay can be officially reunited with his family in Alburquerque as quickly as possible. He has survived and endured so much and wants nothing more than to be with his family again.
