Hello everyone. I need to introduce myself first - my name is Ben Shelef, and just like everyone else reading this I woke up one day in March 2015 to a new reality - the thing I loved most about my home was completely ruined.
Since I had some relevant skills, it was clear to me that I needed to act, and soon afterwards I hooked up with the good people of Save our Skies Santa Cruz and Quiet Skies Santa Cruz Mountains, and eventually we formed Quiet Skies NorCal. (www.QuietSkiesNorCal.org)

What started as a part-time effort became in recent months an all-consuming morning-to-night, 7-days-a-week super-job.
Authoring documents, lots of research, phone calls and emails, content for two web sites, meetings all over the bay area (politicians, activists), not to mention out-of-pocket expenses.
It wasn't about finding the truth and explaining it. It was about fighting groups that intentionally distort and mask the truth in order to gain from our distress. It was, and still is, 90% a political battle.

Luckily for me, I'm self employed and the have flexibility to jump all in, but not without a price. So uncomfortable as it is, I have to do this.
I've set up this account, and am asking for your support.
I need to be able to keep the current pace for probably two more months, then dig myself out a little bit, and I'll be as good as new...
To be clear - If I had to do it all over again, I would do so with absolutely zero hesitation - this is what you do when your home is threatened... but I'd probably be writing this monologue earlier in the process. Hindsight is 20/20.
At this point, however, it has become a matter of necessity.
So there, done. This was the difficult part. I absolutely hate doing this.
