Recovery after major dog attack
Donation protected
I absolutely have the hardest time asking for help and this is very uncomfortable for me to do so. On October 24th around 8:25pm I fell victim to a serious dog bite. The pitbull at the West Hollywood Dogpark located on San Vicente had started a fight with a Rhodesian Ridgeback and my Great Dane ‘Atlas’ happened to walk by. The pitbull seeing the size of Atlas turned his attention to him and started attacking him. The owner was not doing anything but screaming at her dog to stop as she had rescued him from The Animal Foundation of Las Vegas 3 days prior. I immediately stepped in to pull my Great Dane away as he was not fighting back; instead with two bite punctures. I pulled Atlas out from underneath the pitbull. I was bit by the pitbull in the knee and he latched on with his jaws locked for nearly 2 minutes. Then rushed to triage at Cedar Sinai. The injury included one severed Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and a torn Lateral collateral ligament (LCL). Atlas's injuries were not major although the vet bill was! ($1,900) I am not currently working/cannot attempt to work for another 6 weeks. The woman who owned the pitbull first tried to run away from the scene at the dog park leaving me on the ground bleeding and screaming but I was fortunate that one of the other women there was able to chase her down to get her name and number. This owner knowingly signed contracts stating that the dog had aggression towards other dogs and to NOT have him around other dogs which was completely neglected and shame on her for this. She has been extremely rude and the last response I did receive from her was telling me to leave her alone. I've spoken to an attorney to see what we can do but it is up in the air as of now. Currently I am living on no income, I'm not able to work in the industry I love and I just don't have anything left. I'm trying to reach a goal of $6000.00 to cover this months rent and bills as well as all of the medical expenses and continued expenses between myself and Atlas. As I cannot take Atlas outside on walks I have a walker who has been helping me. I am sorry to share such gruesome images but it is important to know how serious this has affected my physical ability to recover fully, my confidence, my emotional state and my financial state as I've mentioned earlier. I refuse to give up as our peaks come from our deepest valleys. In advance I appreciate any one who gives kind words or prayers and if any of you have the means to help me get there, every dollar counts and from the bottom of my heart I will do the same for others moving forward,
