Roberts fight against cancer

Donation protected
Robert was just like us all, a healthy, passionate and adventurous 28 years old, yet on Friday the 21st of April Robert was flown to Canberra hospital after having four unexpected life threatening seizures. In Canberra with his family and girlfriend by his side he was told that he has colon cancer (Bowel cancer) that had spread to his liver, lungs and brain. Robert will now have to fight to survive, with radiation and the most aggressive course of chemotherapy in the world planned for the rest of the year.

The doctor sat down with Robert and asked him about his life, about his goals. Robert chatted his ear off with his ideas. The doctor with a tear in his eye said that he was too young for this, he then said something that left the room in silence. If you have a reason to live and a purpose, I’ll keep you alive to achieve it. Robert smiled and said I have a life- long list.

Robert was diagnosed only days before he was due to fly out on his dream trip through India and Nepal. The purpose of the trip this time was to do more than to satisfy his thirst for adventure but to source a loose-leaf tea supplier to start his little paddocks project on his property in Mogo.

Those that know Robert would know his love for gardens, design, fresh produce, antiques and artistic collaboration. It was these elements infused with Robert’s passion for natural remedies that began to inspire Robert to design a tea house surrounded by fields of herbal tea and a large workshop where local artists could collaboratively work on their craft and sell their products lease free. The paddock also intended to become a hub for natural therapies. Robert has always said that this is not just for him, it’s for everyone, it’s the start of a healthier, connected and supportive community on the south coast.

The project concept is one that Robert has been brewing for years, with plans and designs ready to pour. Yet his savings are now being spent on living expenses and treatment, with no health insurance and an inability to work. While on chemotherapy Robert’s family will be doing all they can to cover the basic costs. The goal, and the reason to fight, becoming harder and harder to reach each and every day since his diagnosis.

Sadly, Robert and his families’ lives have come to a sudden stop but this does not mean that the bills and living expenses will do the same. It is the ongoing cost of transport to and from his chemotherapy sessions along with trips to Canberra for his radiation, Phone, electricity and so on. All the things that we take for granted in our everyday working lives.

I am asking you all to get behind Robert and his family to make Roberts dream and purpose a reality and not limit his fight and options for alternate treatments to a financial matter. So please if you can donate and for those that can’t please share this page with your friends and family.
